Early Childhood Curriculum
Training Aim
The purpose of the Early Childhood Curriculum course is to equip you with the knowledge, skill and competence required to develop and implement a broad based curriculum in an Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) setting.
Learning Outcomes
- Critically reflect on the contributions of a range of early childhood educational theorists to pedagogical practice
- Assess a range of early childhood programme models and approaches and their implementation
- Evaluate the role of the adult in supporting children’s learning and development
- Select from a range of strategies to facilitate assessment for learning
- Promote learning contexts which support child well being, identities and belonging consistent with relevant legislation and national practice guidelines
- Lead curriculum implementation in a variety of situations both indoor and outdoor
- Evaluate personal and professional learning and that of others linking curriculum theory to practice and assessment
- Reflect on own attitudes, values and beliefs and their impact on the learning environment

Early Childhood Arts & Culture
Training Aim
The purpose of the Early Childhood Arts and Culture module is to equip you with the knowledge, skill and competence to support early childhood learning through creative arts and culture to enable the child to make sense of and express his or her world in both a visual and tangible manner, in a specific Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) setting.
Learning Outcomes
- Evaluate the concepts, theories and principles underpinning the effective teaching and learning of creative arts and culture in a specific ECCE setting
- Assess how arts and culture enhance the development of perceptual, physical, linguistic and socio emotional skills in early childhood
- Provide artistic and cultural experiences that support the holistic development of the child
- Guide children to use their own values and artistic skills to explore, think about and communicate with their environment
- Assess a range of resources to support children’s creative and cultural development
- Use appropriate space and materials to plan arts and culture based experiences that engage children in a supportive way
- Lead appropriate observations to evaluate the child’s artistic and cultural development
- Appraise own range of specialised skills and those of colleagues in meeting the creative and cultural needs of the child in the ECCE setting
- Identify your learning needs at a personal and professional level and assist others in identifying learning needs
- Manage tasks within the parameters of professional conduct including relations with parents, guardians, children and colleagues

Early Childhood Literacy & Numeracy
Training Aim
The purpose of the Early Childhood Literacy and Numeracy module is to equip you with the knowledge, skill and competence to support early childhood literacy and numeracy in a specific Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) learning environment
Learning Outcomes
- Examine the concepts, theories and principles underpinning the teaching and learning of literacy and numeracy in a specific ECCE setting
- Evaluate the main theoretical approaches and models that explain language and number acquisition in a specific ECCE learning context
- Devise lesson plans to enrich literacy and numeracy
- Guide children to practice their skills in a range of situations and for a range of purposes
- Assess a range of resources to support children’s language and number acquisition
- Assess how the environment promotes development of concept formation and abstract logical reasoning
- Organise a variety of observations to evaluate the learning of language and number in an ECCE setting
- Appraise own range of specialised skills and those of colleagues in meeting the literacy and numeracy needs of the child in an ECCE setting
- Evaluate own learning needs at a personal and professional level and assist others in identifying learning needs
- Manage tasks within the parameters of professional conduct including relations with parents, guardians, children and colleagues

Early Learning Environment
Training Aim
The purpose of the Early Learning Environment module is to equip you with the knowledge, skill and competence to prepare and maintain an Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) environment that supports the learning and holistic development of children.
Learning Outcomes
- Identify the range and nature of environmental influences that impact on the holistic development of children
- Consider the relevance of theoretical and conceptual perspectives in explaining the influence of the learning environment and children’s holistic development
- Evaluate the role of movement in children’s physical, social, emotional and intellectual development
- Prepare learning opportunities for children in order to develop independence and responsibility
- Provide opportunities for children to develop their logical thinking, concept formation and creativity
- Prepare and maintain an environment where children’s senses are developed and stimulated
- Select and apply appropriate routines that help children to feel valued, respected, empowered, cared for and included
- Manage meaningful activities that are suited to children’s individual needs and connect with their experiences and interests in the natural environment
