Training Aim

The purpose of the Care Skills module is to develop the skills needed to enable you to recognise the personal care needs of clients, respond effectively to client’s needs and acquire practical skills in the area of client personal care. You will also maintain a safe, healthy and hygienic environments for clients.

  • Client safety and security procedures
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills
  • Facilitating client independence and dignity
  • Procedures for using, cleaning and replacing sensory equipment
  • Appropriate bathing procedures
  • Moving and handling techniques
  • Assisting clients with daily activities e.g. eating, drinking etc
  • Maintaining a hygienic care environment
  • Completing client documentation

  • Skills Demonstration (60%)
  • Assignments (x2) (40%)

QQI Level 5 Care Skills & Care of the Older Person

Our level 5 care skills care of the older person course is a QQI accredited distance learning course. Once enrolled you will be assigned a tutor whom you can contact through email & phone. During your course, you will be required to complete 20 hours of work experience per module. After successfully completing this course you will be qualified to work as a healthcare assistant, carer and care worker in an HSE registered healthcare setting.
